How to Train Your Dragon | Cressida Cowell

Image
This is quite a good series, though it is almost completely different to the films/TV series. For example- at the start the dragons are not fighting the vikings, and the dragons are cat-sized. Hiccup Horrendus Haddock III is a viking boy, and when he finds his dragon, it turns out to be the most basic Basic Brown dragon. Hiccup goes on many adventures, and fights the most repetitive, annoying villain ever; Alvin the Treacherous, who gets really boring and has the most ridiculous schemes. This is quite a good start to those interested in dragons, and I think the series is quite good, but I just don't rave about it, or particularly love it like other people, especially at  the end where there are weird things about dragon enslavement, and dragon war, and the king of the wilderwest, but it is  still quite good. Wizardology | Dugald A Steer

This is quite different to what I usually review, but that is why I am reviewing it. This is not a series of novels, it is a series of fictional encyclopedias/handbooks, which sounds weird, but in fact, they are quite good. It must be very hard to make a fictional world out of just encyclopedias/handbooks, and this is a very detailed world too. The books mainly focus on how to do magic, and magic lore, and numerous things to do with magic. Because of there being no storyline like in a novel, you  can be imaginative yourself and roleplay. The books also tell you how to make stuff, and there are a series of card games and a board game, as well as an online game. Eldest | Christopher Paolini

This is another great book in the Inheritance Series, and may be better than the first. In this book Eragon has to travel to Ellesmera and learn from the elves, the mourning sage and the cripple who is  whole. Murtagh and  the twins go missing, and Ajihad dies early in the book, leaving the Varden to Nasuada. The book is another adventure, that gets better as it progresses, and the perspective sporadically switches from Eragon, to Roran, to Nasuada. I think that some of the best things in this book are the many twists, especially the shocking twist at the end. This is a fantastic book with great new imaginative characters. I love this book 681 Pages 9/10 ABR Rating: B (for info about ABR Ratings, Plea se Visit the  About  Page)

Power of Three | Erin Hunter

Image
This is my least favorite Warriors arc so far, but it is still very good. In this series, the final prophecy from Firestar's Quest comes into action- 'There will be three, kin of your kin, who hold the power of the star in their paws'. Jaykit, Lionkit, and Hollykit are the three protagonists, and from the moment they have their apprentice ceremony, the story twists in different angles, and meanwhile, the Dark Forest is growing stronger. This arc is also interesting, as Jaykit is born blind, and this makes him unique. I really love some of the storyline, but there are other things that are annoying, as there is a fair bit of repetition, for example- Sol, and as the series is a cliffhanger, so proper ending is in the next series, which is like twelve books without a change of scenery. Also, it  only really focuses of Jaykit, Lionkit, and Hollykit, but although these are annoying,it is still a brilliant series. About 320 Pages Each 9/10 ABR Rating: B (for info about ABR

The New Prophecy | Erin Hunter

Image
This is the second series in the brilliant Warriors franchise. Based a while after Firestar's Quest, this series is about the clan cats, in great peril- the twolegs are chopping down the forest (just like what happened to Skyclan!) and six cats- Brambleclaw and Squirrelpaw from Thunderclan, Stormfur and Feathertail from Riverclan, Tawnypelt from Shadowclan, and Crowpaw from Windclan, have to venture off far from the clans to find a new home. This is another fantastic series with great imagination, and is completely different to the other novels. This has some of the best books in the franchise, and has some of the best characters About 320 Pages Each 10/10 ABR Rating: B (for info about ABR Ratings, Plea se Visit the  About  Page)

Bob - No Ordinary Cat | James Bowen

Image
This is a heart-warming, lovely childrens adaption of the bestseller A Street Cat Called Bob. This story is brilliant, how Bob improves James Bowen's life, and is reminiscent of Alfie, Oliver, and Charlie- but unlike those stories, this one is true. After going to London, James became homeless, and took drugs, a while after he stopped taking drugs, a ginger tabby swept into his life. The cat was injured so he took it in and adopted it, and gradually 'Bob' helped James back on his feet. Bob is an amazing, loyal cat- he is very patient, and can do high fives! He also looks fabulous in scarves. This is a must read for all of those who haven't read this. 297 Pages 8/10 ABR Rating: B (for info about ABR Ratings, Plea se Visit the  About  Page)

The Enchantress Returns | Chris Colfer

Image
This is the fantastic second installment is the brilliant Land of Stories series. When Alex and Connor return to the Land of Stories, they find out a great evil is rising- The Enchantress. The Bailey siblings, and some other companions, have to gather the most prized possessions of the seven most hated people in The Land of Stories in order to try and defeat the enchantress. This is yet another great and imaginative from Chris Colfer, and is one of the best books in the series 517 Pages 9/10 ABR Rating: B (for info about ABR Ratings, Plea se Visit the  About  Page)

Dark Lord - The Teenage Years | Dirk Lloyd (Jamie Thomson)

Image
This is a witty, and amusing book, from the perspective of a dark lord, who has been sent into a teenagers body by the white wizard. The Dark Lord falls into earth as a 'puny human child' and is assumed to be mad, as he tells tales of his past life, and receives the name 'Dirk Lloyd' he goes to school, and does many funny, and strange things, such as writing teachers reports, and sticking them all over the school, or performing satanic rituals in the cricket pavilion. This novel is very entertaining, and is a fun read for anyone who gives it a go. I recommend it particularly to those who enjoy The Raven Mysteries by Marcus Sedgwick. This book also has good use of dark humour which makes it more enjoyable 341 Pages 7/10 ABR Rating: B (for info about ABR Ratings, Plea se Visit the  About  Page)

Eragon | Christopher Paolini

Image
This book is kind of like the Hobbit and Dragon Orb, with How to Train Your Dragon elements, but better than all three. In this book Eragon- a young boy is hunting in the mountains- The Spine, when he finds a dragon egg. After raising it for a while, his farm is attacked, killing his uncle. Eragon goes off on a quest for revenge with his dragon Saphira and Brom, the local storyteller. This book is great in the way how there are so many stories, and all of the characters who are focused on have fully fleshed out backstories, or seem to anyway. This novel has many aspects and elements- magic, romance, battles, betrayal, and even a werecat! Fans of the Hobbit, Dragon Orb and How to Train Your Dragon should try this out. 517 Pages 9/10 ABR Rating: B (for info about ABR Ratings, Plea se Visit the  About  Page)

The Wishing Spell | Chris Colfer

Image
This is the first installment in the american series: The Land of Stories. In this novel, Alex and Conner Bailey are normal children until they find out their grandma's storybook can take them to another dimension- the fairytale world, after encounters with a giant frog, the gingerbread house, and several palaces they want to get out, but the only way to get out, is to assemble the wishing spell, but all the while they are being raced on the clock as the evil queen wants the spell too, and it can only be used one more time. Chris Colfer is a brilliant, imaginative author, who puts fairytales into a new light with his own twists on the tales, such as love triangles between characters from three separate tales. This book is great, and the series quickly became one of my all time favourites. You should try it out if you love fairytales! 338 Pages 9/10 ABR Rating: B (for info about ABR Ratings, Plea se Visit the  About  Page)

Skyclan's Destiny | Erin Hunter

Image
Based a few moons after the events of Firestar's Quest, this book has a completely different scene, compared to the forest, and the lake. In this book, Skyclan have to keep the clan stable in the harsh conditions of the gorge, and battle against floods, rats, and even street cats. This book is fantastic, and shows a lot of how life in Skyclan truly is, and how they managed to get along without the help of Firestar and Sandstorm. This is the best book about Skyclan Erin Hunter wrote, but it is rather amusing how bad things always seem to happen to Skyclan 462 Pages 10/10 ABR Rating: B (for info about ABR Ratings, Please Visit the  About  Page)

The Peculiar Power of Tabitha Brown | Mary Hooper

Image
This is a brilliant imaginative story about a girl who can turn into a cat when angry. Tabitha Brown is a young girl whose nana dies and leaves her an old cushion. This is a very good novel, especially when Tabitha is trying to talk to her friend, while in cat form. I think most people should read this, as it is funny, imaginative, quick, and easy to read. 122 Pages 7/10 ABR Rating: A (for info about ABR Ratings, Please Visit the  About  Page)
